What is reiki?

Reiki is the Japanese word for “Universal Life Force Energy.”

It is a gentle, non-intrusive, hands-on, natural healing technique originating from Tibet. In the early 20th century Dr Mikao Usui a Tibetan monk re-discovered the techniques of using Reiki healing energy. He devoted his life to healing others and in later life passed on the teachings of Reiki. Dr Usui studied many different faiths and traditions.

Reiki is not connected to any religion or faith. It is based on the premise that a universal energy system permeates all living things.

When a Reiki practitioner connects to this energy and places their hands upon a person this energy flows to areas of need assisting the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms.

What happens during a treatment?

Your individual needs and medical history will be discussed in confidence. The format of the session will be clearly explained and any queries you may have answered.

During the session you remain fully clothed throughout and may either sit or lie on a comfortable couch with a cover. Pillows may be used to support your body. During the Reiki session various hand techniques involving either lightly touching or hovering above the body will be used. You may want to remain quiet during the session or may choose to talk or sleep. During the session some people may see colours or experience a variety of sensations such as relaxation, warmth, tingling, pressure, lightness. Some people may not necessarily experience these sensations or feelings as everyone is an individual and we experience things in different ways.

Following a treatment

Following your session you will be given the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss any aftercare advice based on your consultation and the results of your session.
