What is colon hydrotherapy?

It is the gentle introduction of warm purified water into the colon via the rectum to release stored faecal matter. The aim of your treatment is to gently cleanse your bowel and by working in partnership with you address your bowel/health concerns. To help maintain a healthy digestive system/bowel and prevent the problem or problems re-occurring you will be given lots of advice on diet, nutrition and lifestyle.

If you would like to undertake further cleansing/detoxing help and support will be available.

The colon

The colon is an extremely important organ that handles the end products of food digestion and stores waste products. An average healthy transit time from eating to having a bowel movement is less than 24 hours with a bowel movement at least once per day. Digestive disorders may lead to poor digestion, bloating and constipation, yeast overgrowth and many other bowel related disorders.

What is involved?

A full medical history is taken followed by an explanation of the procedure, its benefits and the importance of a healthy bowel. The treatment lasts from 30 – 45minutes during which time warm water is gently introduced into the colon via the rectum. Special massage techniques are used to stimulate the release of stored matter and the treatment is tailored specifically to your needs. All the waste passes discreetly through a closed system. No fasting or special measures are necessary prior to a first treatment. Your modesty is preserved at all times by the use of a gown or towels.

How many treatments will I need?

This is difficult to say without taking your medical history and discussing the results of your treatment. Consideration is given to lifestyle and dietary habits, medications, reasons for attending and medical history. Many clients report positive benefits from one treatment. On occasions people may feel they need a follow-up treatment after their initial consultation and treatment to help rectify the problem and assess bowel function. Sometimes, further treatment is required if someone suffers from e.g. long standing chronic constipation. The frequency of treatments will be discussed with you and many people choose to have a colonic every 3-12 months to help maintain health.
